Northbrook, nestled in Cook County, Illinois, is a thriving village situated just 7 miles northeast of Mount Prospect and 20 miles northwest of Chicago. It's considered an integral part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The region was originally inhabited by the Pottawatomie Native Americans before Joel Sterling Sherman purchased 159 acres of land that later evolved into the Northbrook Central Business District. Initially dubbed Shermerville, after Frederick Schermer who donated land for the first railroad station, the area was incorporated in 1901. In 1923, the village adopted its current name, Northbrook.
