Located in Cook County, Illinois, and situated 21 miles northwest of the Loop, Prospect Heights is a unique blend of urban and rural living. The city boasts a country-like atmosphere, complete with busy intersections, Palwaukee Airport, and multifamily dwellings. The name "Prospect Heights" is believed to have been adopted from its neighboring communities, Mount Prospect and Arlington Heights. The city's eastern side is primarily commercial, housing various ventures and the airport, while the western side showcases residential houses on large lots with private wells.

The settlement’s history can be traced back to 1830 when Hiram L. Kennicott established a dairy farm on a thousand-acre expanse at Elmhurst and Willow Roads. However, the first significant influx of residences didn't occur until 1935 when developers Carlton Smith and Allen Dawson began building homes along Elmhurst Road. By 1945, the number of homes had grown to 317, eventually leading to the formation of the Prospect Heights Improvement Association in 1938. This association served both social and governmental needs, leading to the city's incorporation in 1976. By the 1980s, over half of the city's housing was multifamily, and the population stood at 16,058 as per the 2020 census.
