Located in Lake County, Illinois, Mundelein is a village rich in history and culture. Just 10 miles southwest of Waukegan and 33 miles northwest of Chicago, it forms part of the Chicago metropolitan area. Mundelein's history dates back to 1650, with the Potowatami Indians as its early inhabitants who carried out fur trading operations with the French. The first European settlers arrived in the early 1800s led by Peter Shaddle. Initially named "Mechanic's Grove" by tradesmen fleeing England's industrial depression, the area underwent several name changes before finally being named "Mundelein" after George William Mundelein, the Archbishop of Chicago.
