Deerfield, IL

Deerfield, a village in Lake County, Illinois, is located 8 miles northeast of Mount Prospect and 23 miles northwest of Chicago. The area was originally inhabited by the Potawatomi Native Americans until 1835 when it was first settled by whites. Horace Lamb and Jacob B. Cadwell were among the first settlers, initially naming the area "Cadwell's Corner". Over the years, the village underwent several name changes, finally adopting the name "Deerfield", inspired by a town in Massachusetts. In the 1850s, the home of Lyman Wilmot in Deerfield served as a stop on the Underground Railroad.
